After Steve's first three loud, electric albums, the stars re-aligned, and this gem resulted. A mostly acoustic, 98% all guitar master class in studio technology and guitaristic invention. It was my deep introduction to the music of Thelonious Monk, which then directly led to my involvement with Hal Willner's "That's the Way I Feel Now" Monk tribute album.

This recording of Joe Zawinul's "In a Silent Way" predates digital loopers. It does however, feature an analog tape loop of the low E on a classical guitar played at half speed, dropping it an octave, as the drone throughout the piece.
